A Little Duct Tape Gift Box

Hello, readers! Today I decided to make a little duct tape gift box- an alternative to wrapping paper. This project is best for small presents, because the whole thing needs to be covered in tape. Also, do not tape up the box until after the present is inside! I won’t be able to provide image instructions today because the lighting was terrible and all the pictures I took looked a bit… yellow. So here are the instructions:

You Need:

A small box (I used a Dove soap box)

Duct tape

Masking Tape

Clear String

1. Close off the box with a bit of masking tape. Obviously, make sure your present is inside!

2. Wrap the entire box in duct tape. Depending on the print on the box and the color of tape you’re using, you may need to use multiple layers.

3. For a cool texture, wrap masking tape over the duct tape. This step is optional, but it will get rid of the shininess of the DT and make your bow stand out.

Congrats! You finished wrapping  the box. Now it’s time to add the bow.

4. Lay a piece of duct tape about 4 inches long down, sticky side up. Lay it down horizontally.

5. Now put a medium size piece of string down vertically on the duct tape. It should be one inch over from the left of your DT.

6. Fold the DT in half, sticky side to sticky side. It should now be 2 inches long, with the string enclosed in the middle.

7. Cut your string into a bow shape. Make sure not to cut the string.

Finally, tie the string around the box! Ta-dah! Your present is now wrapped. I wish I could show you more pictures, but as I said before, they didn’t turn out very nicely and I took them while I was in the process of making the box. I can’t exactly undo the box…

Well, anyway, that’s all for today! But before I go, I need to ask:

What would you like to see made out of duct tape? There are so many possibilities, but if you want any specific tutorials, please mention them in the comments.

The Liebster Award

the-liebster-awardI can’t believe it! DTD has been nominated for its second award, the Liebster Award! Thank you, breakinalt, for the nomination. The rules of this award are:

1) Post eleven facts about yourself
2) Answer the questions the tagger has set for you and create eleven questions for people you’ve nominated
3) Choose eleven people (with fewer than 200 followers) to give this award to and link them in your post
4) Go to their page and tell them
5) Remember, no tag backs.

So here I go:

1. As you can probably tell, I try not to give out much info about myself online. You know, safety stuff. With that being said:

1. I can ride a unicycle

2. I love crafting. Not just with duct tape, but pretty much anything. Cross stitch, knitting, painting, pottery…

3. The one craft I’ve tried 5,468,902 times (not really) but just can’t get the hang of is crochet. Seriously. I just can’t do it! But then, why use one needle when you could use two?

4. I love advertisements and commercials. It always bugs me when people change the station when an ad comes on. Come on people! Lots of time and effort goes into making those commercials. And many of the are cute, clever, and funny!

5. Popcorn is my favorite food.

6. I’m very indecisive. In fact, it took me about five minutes to come up with this fact! I’ve changed my blog theme about 5 times in the past year.

7. I hate socks. Eww.

8. I’m a pretty good skiier. I can do the green circles, the blue squares if I force myself, and the black diamonds if no one tells me it’s a black diamond.

9.My favorite color is green.

10. I have two hamsters named Sugar and Spice. ❤ them!

11. This is the longest blog post I’ve ever written, and I’m not even halfway done!

2. These are the questions breakinalt gave me:

1) If you could live in any kind of house what would it be?

A 1,000 story house with lots of windows.

2) Favorite genre of music?

3) Do you play any instruments?

Yes! Oboe, flute, and piano.

4) If you could act in any movie which one would it be and what role would you play?

I would act in Enchanted and play Princess Giselle.

5) What color looks best on you?

6) Favorite thing to cook?

Rice Krispie Treats.

7) Favorite season and why?

Summer. It’s so relaxed.

8) Jeans or sweatpants?

9) If you could be any animal which would you be?

A giraffe.

10) Favorite viral video?

11) How is this nomination going to change the way you blog?

Hmm… that’s a hard one. I think that after giving out all this information about myself, I’ll start to blog with more of my own voice.

Here are the questions you must answer if I nominate your blog!

1. Do you like crafts? If so, what’s your favorite type?

2. Stripes vs. Polka dots?

3. Favorite type of chocolate:

4. What’s your favorite part of blogging?

5. If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be?

6. Skiing vs. Surfing?

7.Favorite sport to watch?

8. Favorite sport to play?

9. Do you enjoy wearing socks?

10. How have you grown as a blogger?

11. Why did you first start your blog?

3. In no particular order, I nominate:

365 Days to Unstuck

The Greedy Magpies

Well, this is awkward. Sorry to be a party pooper, but after nominating blogs a few days ago for the Sunshine Award, there aren’t any more blogs I’d like to nominate at this time.

Congrats to 365 Days to Unstuck and The Greedy Magpies! And thanks for reading this long, long post.

Duct Tape Stationary (lata noto ziti)

Hi everyone! So, as you read earlier, the only roll of duct tape that hasn’t run away without telling me is Mr. Pink Polka. So here he is on his own stationary! The final result of this stationary actually doesn’t contain any duct tape, because its texture is a bit awkward and heavy for a greeting card or grocery list. And by the way…just in case you can see the letters on my stationary…I know they don’t make any sense. But just to make my stationary look more…authentic (or something) I wrote in cursive. Unfortunately, I only know a few letters, which explains “lata noto ziti.” Oh, well. And one more thing: I decided to try image instructions along with text instructions today. Okay, now I’ll get to the tutorial already!

Stationary Collage

1. Collect your supplies. You’ll need a roll of duct tape, a few index cards, a Sharpie, and a copier.

2. Cut your duct tape into small strips. Or, if you’re lazy like me, you can just rip it.

3. Tape your index card. Or cards. It’s best if you use simple patterns without too much tape, so you don’t draw too much attention away from your note.

4. Add small designs with Sharpie. Again, don’t do too much. I just added a smile, the word “Thanks,” and a heart.

5. Make a copy of your card.  This will remove the awkward texture and weight of duct tape. You can make as many copies as you’d like.

6. Trim your card. Pretty self explanatory…

7. Write your note!!

Please let me know how the image instructions worked for you. See ya soon!

Guess What? I’M NOT DEAD!!!!

So. I wrote a post called “I’m Back.” You thought I was back. I thought I was back. Then my seven or eight rolls of duct tape decided to take a surprise vacay without telling me. Seriously. One minute they were chillin’ in my closet, happily eating dust balls, and the next minute, they were gone. I found one little guy last night, but there’s not much left in him :(. Anyway, while the search continues for those other naughty rolls, I can write a few posts with my little pink and white tape. Like stationary (hint)… Anyway thanks for sticking with me (no pun intended)!
