Toilet Roll and Washi Tape Gift Box (Pillow Box)

Toilet Roll and Washi Tape Gift BoxGuess who got new washi tape! I picked up a cute flower print at Office Max and I’m definitely obsessed. It’s Scotch Expressions Washi Tape, and the pattern is called “Poppy.” You can get your own here! Anyway, with this FABULOUS new tape, I created a cute little pillow box! These boxes are absolutely great and can be filled with jewelry, wrapped candy, or any other small gift. Here’s the tutorial:

Washi Tape Box Collage

Materials:

Toilet Paper Roll

Washi Tape

White Acrylic Paint

Paintbush

Scissors

1. Paint the toilet paper roll white. Use enough paint to cover the whole thing, but don’t use too much (so the box won’t get soggy).

2. Let the toilet paper roll sit until it is completely dry.

3. Decorate the roll with washi tape!

4. Pop the ends of the roll in to form a box shape.

That’s it! Have a fantastic week everyone :).

A Little Duct Tape Gift Box

DSCF1171

Hello, readers! Today I decided to make a little duct tape gift box- an alternative to wrapping paper. This project is best for small presents, because the whole thing needs to be covered in tape. Also, do not tape up the box until after the present is inside! I won’t be able to provide image instructions today because the lighting was terrible and all the pictures I took looked a bit… yellow. So here are the instructions:

You Need:

A small box (I used a Dove soap box)

Duct tape

Masking Tape

Clear String

Scissors

1. Close off the box with a bit of masking tape. Obviously, make sure your present is inside!

2. Wrap the entire box in duct tape. Depending on the print on the box and the color of tape you’re using, you may need to use multiple layers.

3. For a cool texture, wrap masking tape over the duct tape. This step is optional, but it will get rid of the shininess of the DT and make your bow stand out.

Congrats! You finished wrapping  the box. Now it’s time to add the bow.

4. Lay a piece of duct tape about 4 inches long down, sticky side up. Lay it down horizontally.

5. Now put a medium size piece of string down vertically on the duct tape. It should be one inch over from the left of your DT.

6. Fold the DT in half, sticky side to sticky side. It should now be 2 inches long, with the string enclosed in the middle.

7. Cut your string into a bow shape. Make sure not to cut the string.

Finally, tie the string around the box! Ta-dah! Your present is now wrapped. I wish I could show you more pictures, but as I said before, they didn’t turn out very nicely and I took them while I was in the process of making the box. I can’t exactly undo the box…

Well, anyway, that’s all for today! But before I go, I need to ask:

What would you like to see made out of duct tape? There are so many possibilities, but if you want any specific tutorials, please mention them in the comments.

Thanks!

Duct Tape Box

Hello! So this is my latest project…a duct tape box! While it may not seem all that impressive, this colorful box is actually very useful- a great storage space with lots of style. Imagine taking just a plain old, regular cardboard box (brown), and snazzing it up so much that you can’t tell it ever held shoes! Well here’s how to do it! You’ll need a cardboard box of any size, an index card, a marker, and two colors of duct tape.

1. First, neatly cover the outside of the box in one color of tape. I found it easier to add lots of small strips than to wrap one big piece of tape around the box.

2. Next, cover the inside of the box in another color. Remember to tape the bottom!

3. On the index card, write down whatever you’ll be keeping in the box, then tape the card to the front.

Ta-dah! Although this project may seem simple, you’re really making a common, necessary household item. It’s a whole lot prettier than plain brown cardboard, and it costs a whole lot less than a store bought container! Happy taping!
